Programs for Youth and Families
United Way of Hudson County provides direct funding for:
- outpatient mental health services for 385 children and adolescents in Bayonne
- motivational counseling services which provide activity-oriented programs for 85 “at risk” children between 9-15 years of age
- shelter for 20 Hudson County families (women and children)
- adolescent and teen workshops that develop positive social values, social skills and literacy skills
- community service projects, diversity education and conflict resolution workshops for girls living in or near Jersey City public housing
- volunteer training for DYFS and CASA advocates for Hudson County children who have been abused and/or neglected
- parenting groups for Hudson County adults with children and professional training workshops for individuals who work with abused and neglected children
- a matching grant with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to enroll Hudson County children in the New Jersey Family Care Program for families that need affordable health insurance
- a literacy program run by Jersey City’s library that helps 30 children attain a reading level one grade higher than when they began the program
- a pre-school/day camp and after school day care for Bayonne children from low-income families
- day care for working single parents in North Hudson along with three care-givers
- a Hudson County music program with a drug prevention message for high school students
- an afterschool and evening basketball program for Bayonne children and teens
- day care for Jersey City children of single parents who are moving from welfare to independence
- health fairs that provide vision, cholesterol, diabetes and blood pressure screenings and brochures with health information targeted to our Spanish-speaking population in Hudson County
- integrated daycare program for able-bodied and special needs children in Hudson County
- emergency care for children and families in crisis
- residential services for battered women and children in Hudson County
- entrepreneurial program for teenagers
- after school programs run by the Bayonne Jewish Community Center, the Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County, Bayonne Police Athletic League, Educational Arts Team in Jersey City, and the local chapter of the Girl Scouts.
- Young Explorers computers at Hudson County daycare centers.
